In this project, I had to make a toothbrush holder with the constraints of it being no bigger than 5"x5"x5" and having to fit 4 toothbrushes. The holder I had prior to this had issues with standing up, but I solved that problem with giving my current design a much wider base. I also gave it a hole for holding toothpaste
To make this, I used Inventor to make the design, and a Makerbot 3D printer to give the design a physical form. I first made a 5x5x5 in. cube. After that, lots of extruding cylindrical shapes, most of varying diameters and height. For the half-cylinders along two of the the sides, I used a .475 in. diameter and 5 in. height 15 times. The larger "bite" in the corner was a 1.25x5 cylinder, and the smaller is .75x5. For the toothbrush slots, those are 1x4.5. And for the rectangular hole, 1.275x3x4.5 in. After that, fillet every edge.
With the design finished. transfer file to USB stick, put it in to the Makerbot printer, mess with the controls till it gets printing, and it should take the short time of 28 hours to finish
